Addition of Enclosed Second Story
Kiawah Island is a resort town focused on complimenting nature and enjoying the outdoors. Its architecture follows suit.
The main house had an existing add-on -- an extension off the bedroom with a deck above. Unfortunately, a deck above living space is often problematic construction simply because drainage and leakage can become an issue. So the client wanted to turn the leaky deck space into a proper guest suite, while also adding on a bit so the suite had its own living area.
This proper mother-in-law suite was designed with windows on all three sides of the addition to open up views of the gold course for guests. We took care to be sure it looked as though it had always been a part of the originally designed home.
